Missions Trip to Northern Thailand
From 13 to 19 June 2007, a team of seven from our church visited our missionaries Rev Lalthanzauva, Awii, Asholi and Puii to share God's blessings and to bring His message of love and grace to the Akha people. The trip provided many opportunities for us to understand our missionaries' work in Northern Thailand and to participate in the work with them.

The Akha people are immigrants who fled Burma when they were engulfed in civil war between the Burmese and the Shan people; a minority of the immigrants came from Laos.  The first Akha village in Thailand was established around 1903. The Akha Churches in Thailand (ACT) was formed in 1976 and today there are 59 Akha churches under ACT.

Over the seven days that we were there, we shared messages from the Bible and our own testimonies; performed mimes and gospel magic tricks; presented songs; organized sessions of games, dumpling-making, handicrafts, balloon sculpting; and gave out gifts (clothes, toys, sweets, etc.). We learnt precious lessons on how great our God is when we fix our eyes on Him instead of ourselves. God works through us for His glory. He is awesome! He is truly God of all.

Missions Sunday
There will be a workshop: "Acting Locally, Impacting Globally" on 7 October 2007 (Sunday) from 12.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. Our church has sent out several missionaries overseas but Singapore is itself a mission field because we have many foreigners living and studying within this little "red dot". As a church there are many things we can do, the impact of which goes beyond our shores. We do not need visas to cross boundaries with our prayers, so we will be encouraging the Sunday School classes to pray for our missionaries and for the persecuted churches during Missions Sunday on 14 October. Look out for more news in the weeks leading up to Missions Sunday.

Evangelism
Are you finding it difficult to reach out to your Cantonese-speaking parents, relatives or friends? Take hold of the Mid-autumn Festival outreach opportunity. Give their names to Alice Wong so that the church can pray for them and visit them. Pray unceasingly; and let God do His work.

The Christmas Musical is another outreach opportunity. The theme for this year's Christmas outreach is "Emmanuel Has Come". Held on 25 December, it will begin at 3:00 p.m. with High Tea followed by the musical at 4:00 p.m. So, pray, and invite your friends, relatives and family for this Christmas Musical (there will be the message, sharing of testimonies, and a skit as well). You can also invite carollers to your home on Christmas Eve for the gospel to be shared.

These are opportunities for us to reach out to those who have yet to know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. May God through us spread everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him and may we be to God the aroma of Christ, the fragrance of life.

From the Council and Diaconate
Kay Poh Road Baptist Church
